Olney Theatre Center’s Production of Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps Pushes Actors’ Talents to New Heights
In this Comedic Twist on a Classic Thriller, the Cast of Four Play Over 150 Characters
Olney, MD- April 5, 2012- Olney Theatre Center, the award-winning, year-round arts and entertainment destination, announces the opening of The 39 Steps, a comedic twist on Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film thriller. Due to the high volume of advance ticket sales, Olney Theatre Center is proud to announce that the show has already been extended from its previous run date: The 39 Steps will run in Olney Theatre Center’s Mulitz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab from April 18 to May 20, 2012.
“In addition to having everything people know and love about Alfred Hitchcock’s British spy chase suspense-thriller,” said Olney Theatre Center’s Associate Artistic Director Clay Hopper. “This farcical treatment of the film is a rare celebration of both cinema and theatricality. The 39 Steps will have audiences rolling in the aisles and sitting on the edge of their seats. Not necessarily in that order.”
The 39 Steps is about a man, Richard Hannay played by Jeffries Thaiss, who is on the run after his world is turned upside down when he is unexpected accused of murder and subsequently chased by spies.
Thaiss was most recently seen in Olney Theatre Center’s production of Witness for the Prosecution in the Fall of 2011. He has also been featured on television shows such as As The World Turns, and performed at theatres and playhouses from Seattle to Cincinnati, to St. Louis and Syracuse, among many others throughout his career.
Thaiss is accompanied by other Olney Theatre Center veterans including, Susan Lynskey, Jason Lott, and Evan Casey.
Helen Hayes-Nominated Lynskey, who plays Annabella et. al., performs regularly at Olney Theatre Center and other area venues, such as The Kennedy Center; Arena Stage; Round House; Studio Theatre; CenterStage and Folger Theatre. Lynskey has also appeared in numerous productions, television series, and feature films for Warner Bros., Disney, HBO, Showtime, NBC, CBC, and PBS, among many others.
Clowns 1 and 2 are played by Lott and Casey, respectively. Lott, who received a Helen Hayes Nomination for his recent performance in Olney Theatre Center’s production of Annie, has also appeared in several theatre productions throughout the region, and has also participated in two original productions at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre Fringe in Scotland. Casey has recently been seen in Olney Theatre Center’s productions of Camelot, Fiddler on the Roof, and Lend Me a Tenor. He also regularly performs at theatres around the DC and New York regions, and has also been featured in a number of TV and film productions.
