Arts Integration Teaching Artist 2023-2024
Olney Theatre Center is looking for a Teaching Artist for our Arts Integration program called Our Play. Our Play is designed to capitalize on theatre as a collaborative art form by providing students opportunities to expand their 21st-century skills, often described as the four C’s: Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Creativity. Through Our Play, Olney Theatre partners with a local private or public school to integrate the arts into their current curriculum. The Teaching Artist visits this school each week to facilitate collaborative playwriting activities with students who work in small groups around a particular theme. Near the end of the school year, the teaching artists help facilitate the final performance of the student-written plays on one of Olney Theatre’s stages! The teaching artist must be available during school hours (sometime between 8:00 am-3:00 pm) starting between September 2023 May 2024. Learn more about Our Play.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach 1-2 in-school collaborative playwriting workshops each week.
- Implement curriculum designed and adapted by Olney Theatre Center.
- Help facilitate and organize the final presentation of the student-written plays on Olney’s stages. Be able to commute to schools for lessons and to Olney Theatre for events.
Requirements:
- A can-do attitude and a willingness and enthusiasm to work with children.
- Some teaching experience.
- Mobility in the classroom to reach all of the small groups.
- Reliable transportation.
- Flexibility and organizational skills.
- Excellent listening, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Compensation:
$100 per class
