Breaking ground in 2020, Staging the Future has begun to revitalize Olney Theatre Center’s campus.
The capital campaign is positioning our theatre to become a world-class theatrical incubator and multidisciplinary hub. As of Spring 2024, Olney Theatre has raised over $31.5 million towards its goal thanks to generous donors like you, support from the Montgomery County Government, and a $15.5 million investment from the State of Maryland. We now look to our community to help us raise the remaining $4.5 million.
Staging the Future will:
► Reimagine the Root Family Stage at the new Omi’s Pavilion, providing a unique outdoor performance space in Montgomery County.
► Renovate the aging 1938 Original Theatre into the Bernard Family Theatre, a flexible performance and gathering space. An improved Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Lobby and courtyard will foster connections among families, friends, and colleagues.
► Build a Makers' Center which will contain new state-of-the-art production shops and artistic offices, providing theatre makers with the space and resources they need to create cutting edge theatre and to train a new generation of artisans and technicians.
► Construct an Education Wing, which will allow Olney Theatre to offer more workshops, classes, special events, and multidisciplinary performances for our community.
► Enhance energy efficiency on campus to reduce Olney Theatre's carbon footprint. A new geothermal well will provide a renewable energy source on campus and extend the lifespan of HVAC systems.
► Improve accessibility throughout the campus.
