Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if it rains?
A: Because the stage is covered, we try to perform rain or shine. If there is light rain or occasional showers in the forecast, performances will proceed outdoors, so dress appropriately for the elements. However, in case of severe weather, programs may have delayed start times, be moved to an indoor location, or be rescheduled for another evening. Patrons will be notified about any changes on the day of the program by email, and notices will be placed on our website and social media accounts. Refunds will only be issued if an event is canceled. Patrons unable to attend a rescheduled event may exchange their tickets for credit to be used towards another Olney Theatre Center program.

Q: Do I need to bring my own chair?
A: Unless you purchased a "Lawn" ticket you should not bring a chair with you. Those in the Lawn section are invited to bring blankets and low-profile chairs.

Q: Do you have wheelchair-accessible seating?
A: The seated section of the Root Family Stage is on grass and may be difficult for those in a wheelchair to navigate. There is a paved area that is designated for wheelchairs. Please ask a house manager to direct you when you arrive.

Q: What are the differences between the three sections of seating?

A: Scroll down for an image of the layout, but here are the differences:

  • The Chairs section is directly in front of the stage and are outdoor lawn chairs supplied by Olney Theatre.
  • The Bleacher seats are slightly off to the side. They are metal benches like in high school that rise, so there are stairs involved. For your comfort, we supply seat cushions with modest back supports.
  • Lawn spaces are also to the side of the stage. You can bring your own chair or blanket, get up and dance, or lay back and stare at the stars. Just be considerate of those around you.
  • Please note that for: Better Off Dead, Eclipse, Earth Wind and Fire, Almost Queen and Satisfaction all tickets are general admission. The layout for the event will include an area in front of the stage for dancing, chairs, and bleachers further back for those who need a rest, as well as a lawn area where blankets and collapsible chairs are welcome.

Q: Can I bring my own wine, beer, or liquor?
A: No. Outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited. A variety of drinks are available for purchase.

Q: Can I bring my own food and picnic before the show?
A: Yes. Doors open at 6:00 pm for most performances.

Q: Do you sell pre-show meals?
A: We do not. However, we are planning to have food trucks on-site for Friday night performances. Many of our local restaurants would be more than happy to prepare a to-go meal for you.

Q: Can I purchase tickets at the door?
A: Yes. Though some sections sell out faster than others, so if you want to guarantee a spot in the seated section, we recommend purchasing in advance.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Unfortunately, no, with the exception of properly trained and outfitted service animals.
