Name and pronouns? Where are you from/currently residing?
Max Johnson (he/him/his) from Washington, DC!
What drew you to theatre?
For me at least, I feel that theatre and acting is something that I can never truly understand, and that's fascinating to me. Every time I think I have a grasp on it, I find a whole other layer of theatre that reminds me just how much I have to learn. I also believe that theatre has the unique power to expose people to other viewpoints and remind us of our shared humanity.
What drew you to National Players?
I was drawn to National Players for a variety of reasons. I firmly believe that theatre should be accessible to as many communities as possible and that it is our responsibility as artists to create companies and pieces of work that reflect the diversity of the world around us, which is something that theatre has historically not done. I also work as an educator in addition to being an actor, so a lot of the educational aspects of National Players appealed to me as well. When I saw the National Players were holding auditions, I jumped at the chance to become part of this company, since I saw a lot of the values that I believe in in the National Players!
What are you most looking forward to on the tour?
On the tour, I'm looking forward to seeing parts of America that I've never seen before and getting the chance to experience the rigor, excitement, and exhaustion of a full tour. I'm also really looking forward to growing my euchre skills with the cast!
What do you hope to do after the tour?
After the tour, I want to continue to build my acting career in DC. I believe this tour is going to help me grow enormously as an actor and as a theater practitioner, so I hope to use those skills to continue to work as a professional actor in the DC area.
What's something you want people to know about you?
Huh, I don't really know. I'm a DC native. Fun fact: I have two metal plates in my eye socket!
